Each year the Hosta Hideaway Nursery and Gardens of York Springs, Pennsylvania has visitors from all over the eastern United States. For example, in 2023 alone we had customers from over 20 different states. Additionally, we often get asked where to eat, what to do, or even where to stay when in the area. Even those who are traveling from less than 3 hours away or those coming as part of a small group ask us for recommendations of where to eat. Therefore, we have put together the following list that may be helpful when planning your visit to The Hosta Hideaway.

Things to do After Visiting The Hosta Hideaway:

Roccos: Local Restaurant (York Springs) 10 minutes from THH.  Pizza and subs, homemade rolls.

Dobbin House: ( Gettysburg) 25 minutes from THH. Generally noted as A best restaurant. Rooms available.

Bakers Diner: (Dillsburg) 10 minutes from THH. Local diner recommend for breakfast, also serve lunch or dinner.

Caffe 101: (Boiling Springs) 10 minutes from THH. Breakfast or lunch, outdoor seating available, located across from Children’s Lake- nice setting.

Greystone Brew House: (Dillsburg) 8 minutes from THH. Overlooks Golf Course, outdoor seating available, bar food.

Crabbs Tropical Treat: (Hanover) 25 minutes from THH. Family owned old fashioned drive-in restaurant with carhops, fun experience.

Bangkok Wok: (Mechanicsburg) 20 minutes from THH,  Very good Thai Restaurant, lunch specials (recommend).

The Pizza Grille: (Camp Hill) 20 minutes from THH. Upscale gourmet pizzas, salads, other specialties (recommend).

D&S Produce: 3 minutes from THH. A great stop for some Ice Cream after visiting our nursery. https://www.dandsproduce.com/

Things to do:

Gettysburg National Military Park: 20 minutes from THH. The park includes over 6,000 acres of land, 1,300 monuments, 400 cannons, and 31 miles of roads to traverse. Eastern Museum of Motor Racing: 5 minutes from THH. Museum highlighting motor racing in Pennsylvania and surrounding regions. https://emmr.org/

Adams County, PA, Orchards: The Hosta Hideaway is located in Pennsylvania’s Fruit Belt, so taking a scenic drive through the over 20,000 acres of orchards and stopping for some fresh produce is always a treat. Below are a few suggestions.

Appalachian Trail: 4 minutes from THH. Can be accessed off Whiskey Springs road or in Boiling Springs (quaint town), and both the Mid-Atlantic Appalachian Trail Conservancy and Yellow Breeches Creek, renowned for Fly-Fishing, are located nearby.

New Oxford: 20 minutes from THH. Quaint town noted for antique shopping. https://www.newoxford.org/visiting-new-oxford.html

Carlisle: 20 minutes from THH. Interesting town noted for numerous annual car show events, The U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center, and a diverse selection of restaurants and shops.

Hershey, PA: 40 minutes from THH. Things to do include Hershey Park, Hershey’s Chocolate World, Hershey Gardens, Special events at the Giant Center or Hersheyark Stadium. https://www.hersheypa.com/

Frederick, MD: If traveling to The Hosta Hideaway from points south, Frederick, MD might be a good choice to stop for a place to eat or to explore if you have some extra time. You can find many restaurants in the town’s downtown historic district which is also a nice place where to walk and explore.

Baltimore, MD: 1.5 hours from THH. Many interesting things to do and see in Baltimore including the B&O Railroad Museum, Fort McHenry, National Aquarium, The Walters Art Museum, Fells Point, The Baltimore Museum of Art, The Baltimore Museum of Industry, and much more.  https://baltimore.org/what-to-do/

Washington D.C.: 2 hours from THH. Lots to see and do including Arlington National Cemetery, Museum of the American Indian, Mount Vernon, The Smithsonian Museum, Holocaust Memorial Museum, Museum of African American History, National Air and Space Museum, Museum of American History, over 100 monuments, and scores of other places, activities and events to experience. https://washington.org/

Where to stay:

Hickory Bridge Farms: Several of our customers have stayed at Hickory Bridge Farms where they have farmhouse or cottage accommodations, and a locally famous restaurant that serves family-style dinners. Additionally, THH is located 25 minutes north of Gettysburg and 20 minutes south of Carlise and Mechanicsburg where there are a large number of hotel and restaurant chains.
